Mothers Day Surprise

We don't have a lot of new stuff going on right now, so I figure it's a good time for blogging on some past things that got skipped over:

Here's a picture of the kiddos getting my mothers day present ready.

Steven was so sweet. He had an awesome gift for me, which was a huge surprise. I went out to the store the night before Mother's Day, and he had the kids get up out of bed and help him wrap and decorate my gift. The colored all over the paper and Orion wrote a bunch of little things like: Happy Mothers Day, We Love You, and You Are Funny (for some reason, he thinks that telling someone they're funny is the ultimate compliment). Then, they planned that when I got home from the store, Orion would call out so I would check on him in bed and see the gift.

The only problem was, I stayed at the store a long time that night. And I mean a really long time. Maybe I'm the only one that does this, but sometimes when I get out at night, I get into the store and just wander and wander. So, by the time I finally got home, the kids were both fast asleep. So, the surprise didn't work quite the way they wanted it to. But when I finally did see the gift, I certainly was surprised.

Apparently, back in February, Steven won a large gift card from his work--which he kept secret from me. Then, very unexpectedly, an old friend sent us a letter and check in the mail telling us to go out and do something nice for ourselves (That's a whole story by itself. It was from an old college professor of mine, who Steven served with in a bishopric back in Idaho. We keep in touch from time to time, and he just sent this to us out of the blue telling us that he was thinking about us and the hard times we've gone through, and that he wanted to do something small for us. The money was obviously appreciated, but more than that to me was the amazing feeling of knowing that we have friends like that who care so much. It really warmed my heart). But anyway, I didn't know about this either on mother's day. Steven had kept it all a secret. So, with this money that I didn't know anything about, he went out one night and bought my awesome gift(once again, totally deceiving me by saying that he was going to visit a friend of ours who was going through a hard time and needed some help--yeah, it all was a lie. They really went out and bought my gift that night. And even worse, when I asked one of the friends about it, she totally covered for him).

So what was the awesome gift? The sweet laptop that I'm currently using to make this blog post. Between the gift card and the check, it was almost entirely paid for with free money! So now here I sit, feeling like just about the luckiest mommy in the world, to have a beautiful laptop to sit at while I blog about my beautiful family.

My two favorite things about my new laptop are these: the silky, silky keyboard (seriously, it's like butter), and the number pad. Most laptops don't have the number pad, and it's a huge pet peeve for me, because I'm an accountant, and I think numbers matter. And my husband knows how much it matters to me, and so he made sure to get one, and the fact that he would think of a little thing like that just proves how much he loves me.

OK, I know this post has been incredibly braggy, but hey . . . sometimes you've got to brag a little. On a serious note, I really do feel incredibly blessed in my life. I'm so thankful for family, for friends, and yes, for this laptop too. I have a happy life. And that's something I need to think on a little more sometimes. I tend to focus on what I don't have too much, and so it's good for me to take a moment and realized how lucky I am.
